Carlsbad Flower Fields Get A Makeover
Posted by Rosa Buettner in Carlsbad News | 0 Comments
For the first time in 15 years, the color motif at the 50-acre Carlsbad Ranch will change this spring. The Flower Fields decided to change the pattern this year to make it more visually appealing and surprise visitors with a new, more beautiful experience. A colorist was hired, the seeds were sown and now the waiting begins.
The new motif will include rows of red, orange, gold, yellow, white, rose, pink, merlot, salmon, cafe, flame and mixed colors. Ranunculus, whose shoots are starting to appear, typically bloom for six to eight weeks. The season this year is expected last from March 1 through May 13. Last year, more than 127,000 people visited the fields.

Want to have a say in what happens to vacant and underutilized land here in Carlsbad? The City is giving you a chance to voice your opinion. Attend a workshop and have your say about vacant city lots and the General Plan for Carlsbad. The City of Carlsbad is holding two workshops, one in January and one in February, for residents to attend and discuss how vacant and underutilized sites around the city might be designated for different land uses in line with the city’s General Plan. There is a meeting on Jan. 31 at Poinsettia Elementary School and another one on Feb. 2 at the Senior Center. Both meetings run from 6-8 p.m. Carlsbad residents can also take an online survey in addition to the community workshops. Click here and provide your input from home. During the upcoming workshops, residents can give feedback on three land-use concepts—Centers, active waterfront and core focus. Each concept distributes the future land uses differently throughout the city, depending on the concept objective.
Flower Hill Promenade Expansion Moving Forward

The Flower Hill Promenade shopping center on Via De La Valle, just east of Interstate 5, will be expanded from its existing 112,000 square feet to 173,000 square feet with the addition of new retail and office space and a four-level parking garage at the west end of the property. An Ultra Star cinema was demolished to make way for the new buildings. A $25 million expansion and renovation is moving forward on schedule, and a new Whole Foods market and other businesses could be open by the end of the year. The project will also include a facelift for the existing buildings in the center and a new parking structure will contain about 400 parking spaces. Read more and get the full store: Click Here

San Diego’s Newest Restaurant
San Diego Downtown Restaurants
Chef Brian Malarkey has achieved success once again with his uncanny ability of taking American cuisine and putting his own signature twist to it. By teaming up with EnDev’s famous James Brennan and interior designer Thomas Schoos, success was inevitable. Although Malarkey has already proven his ability as a chef in the past six years as Executive Chef of the Oceaniare Seafood Room, he still feels the need to impress with his flair for turning ordinary into spectacular. After being a finalist on Bravo’s “Top Chef 3 Miami” and being named San Diego’s Best Chef in 2009, Malarkey is definitely up for the challenge with his first restaurant, Searsucker. A casual yet elegant dining atmosphere will greet you as you walk into a cozy setting of unique but simple decorations. Oriental rugs, patterns of textured animals, comfortable couches and the words “Eat” on the wall will soon put you at ease and into a state of hunger.
Located in the Gaslamp District in Downtown San Diego, Searsucker offers succulent food derived from American classic favorites. By turning ordinary fries into “Duck Fat Garlic Fries”, we can see that Malarkey is full of surprises when he cooks in his open kitchen that all the guests can enjoy from their seats in the dining area. The menu at Searsucker offers simplicity when choosing from the seven sections that’s listed. It is easy to understand why they named the sections as they did when you start ordering. Bites, Smalls, Greens, Ocean, Ranch, Farm and “And” are self-descriptive as you read them. There is a “Wow” factor in everything that you order here. From the Cheddar Puffers that are complimentary to the Local Shark that is barbecued and served with onions and bleu cheese, you are sure to find dishes with zest and character.
Searsucker is sure to be a winner for uniqueness, great cuisine and affordability. Whether you’re dining alone or dining with a crowd, this is one place that will make you feel welcome. With the opening of Searsucker, it won’t be long before
all the other San Diego Restaurants are left behind.
